What brought me here

Some of you may be wondering  how I ended up in France.  I've been here for 6 years already.  I must admit, I have a love-hate relationship with France.  When I was younger, I have always dreamed of France, I was a francophile.  I even got married with a French guy.  But the more I got to know the country, the less I was enthusiastic about it.  Their administration, the way of doing business, are unproductive.  French people have the tendency to complexify everything. Everything takes a long time : opening a bank account, going to the Post Office, renting an appartment, etc.  If I had started my blog 6 years ago, I would probably have a lot to say about what I have endured.  After all theses years, I've become accustomed with the way things work here.  My husband has started a business 5 years ago, so we have to stick around here for a little while. We have dealt with demanding employees.  They are protected by the French Employment laws, so it was really hard for hiring and laying them off.  In my opinion, this is part of the reasons why France unemployment is so high. Besides the rough paths encountered, being in France brought us a lot of professional experience.  We got to work with Germans, Belgians and Dutch.

The perks of living of the North of France

Not!  It is not one of the most pleasant place in France, the sky is often grey and it rains a lot. 

The only good thing I find living here, is the proximity to other countries.   Lille, the capital of the North of France, is called the "crossroads of Europe". We share a border with Belgium.  We go as often as we can.  Belgium is great for its food (waffles, fries and their beers).  During the summer, our weekend getaways are mostly in the Netherlands.  It's the only way to escape French people for a short time.

The Special Advisor of the President

 I was suggested to write this post in English...

For some of you who are in France, it is already old news, but I want to share this video with people outside of France.

We can see Henri Guaino arguing hard with a journalist.  He is Sark.ozy's special advisor, he was the one writting the President's speeches as well.

Guaino and Guéant, (the Interior Minister) are the ones that are from the far right wing in this government. 

Sarko has once said while he was visiting Senegal, "...The African man has never really entered history".
Those were actually Guaino's words.

How aggressive can you get? and condescendent!

 These people are only there to attract some far right wing voters for the next election.  Shame shame.

Il ne fait pas bon vivre d'être étrangers en Fr

Aujourd'hui, en regardant Canal +, il y avait un reportage sur l'immigration choisie.  Des images de gens qui font la file à la Préfecture pour obtenir leur carte de séjour (le droit de résider en France légalement).  Beaucoup ont déjà le droit de travailler et on y voyait même une personne qui montrait sa feuille d'impôt.  Ça me rappelle des souvenirs aussi.  Quand je suis arrivée en France, c'était sous le régime Chirac.  Obtenir ma carte de séjour n'était qu'une simple formalité.  Je bénéficiais du droit de séjour par le biais du regroupement familiale.  Lorsque Sarko est arrivé au pouvoir, les choses ont changé.  Et il y a même pas un an, il a nommé Claude Guéant comme ministre de l'Intérieur.  Le ton a durci.  Les travailleurs étrangers qui sont en France ne sont plus bienvenus, sous prétexte qu'il n'y a plus de travail pour tout le monde, crise oblige.  Dans le reportage, on voit qu'un couple de Roumains, tous les deux travailleurs n'ont toujours pas eu leur carte de séjour.

Autre chose que j'ai pu observer, toutes les fois que je quittais le territoire à l'aéroport, on me laissait passer parce que j'avais un passeport canadien, c'est à peine si le douanier me regardait.  En décembre dernier, lorsque j'avais pris l'avion, le douanier m'a interrogé sur le fait que j'avais quitté le territoire français qu'en 2007.  Il m'a tout de suite demandé si j'avais ma carte de séjour.  

De retour de mon séjour, j'ai vu, sur Canal + toujours, que c'était les nouvelles règles, il fallait faire du chiffre et attraper le plus de migrants illégaux.  Même ceux qui partaient par leur propre moyen, étaient "attrapés", détenus et expulsés par la suite.  Cherchez l'erreur? un mec qui quittait la France par ses propres moyens, se fait choppé et ce sont les contribuables qui paient! D'après l'article de l'Humanité.fr, le coût moyen pour une reconduite à la frontière s'élevait à 20 970 euros, en 2009.   Ce gouvernement est prêt à tout pour avoir des statistiques sur les contrôles aux frontières, quitte à bafouer les lois européennes et se prendre des amendes de l'Europe.

Pinterest, what the heck is that?

Have you ever heard of pinterest.com, it is a new social media website.  The catch is that you have to request an invitation in order to use it.   It looks like it is very used among women.  It is basically a virtual pinboard, you "pin" whatever picture you like or vids.  I don't know if it will have the same success as the other social network sites, we will see.

  I'm still waiting for my  invitation.

Update, I have finally been able to use it.  It is really time consuming.  You can follow people who have boards and what they have pinned.
